Cesar Vallejo College offers three credit validation options:

Credit Transfer
Credits for Prior Learning
Credit by exam: College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

Students transferring courses from a previously attended institution must maintain a 2.0 or above, on a 4.0 scale and must have received a minimum of “C” or its equivalent for acceptance. No credit is given for internship/co-op courses, or for academic courses with pass/fail or satisfactory/unsatisfactory grades. Student must obtain a minimum of 15 required general education credit hours at Cesar Vallejo College. These courses will be evaluated on course equivalency to determine relevancy and fulfillment of curriculum objective within Cesar Vallejo College. The institution from which the student is requesting the transfer must be accredited by the United States Department of Education.

If applicant attended or is a graduate of a foreign institution, all course work from the foreign institution must be evaluated for U.S. institutional equivalency. The official evaluation must be sent directly from the evaluation service. For evaluation, please contact a member agency of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services such as:

The process to transfer credits must be completed and approved prior to the first day of class. Transfer of credit may not exceed 75% of any program’s total number of credits.

Conversion of Clock Hours for Credit Transfer

Courses in clock hours are evaluated using the following formulas:

  • 15 lecture clock hours = 1 credit hour
  • 30 laboratory clock hours = 1 credit hour
  • 45 externship clock hours = 1 credit hour

Costo por validación de transferencia de créditos: $ 65.00

The credit validation for prior learning is the academic credit granted for the knowledge or skills that you have acquired through your life experience, job training, workshops, seminars or other experiences. Your learning throughout life can translate into academic credits at CVC.

CVC offers the Challenge Exam and Portfolio Assessment, designed to translate your professional skills and life history into academic credits.

  • Through the Challenge Exams, you can take the equivalent of an end-of-course exam and receive credit if you pass it. For the courses that apply, CVC prepares and administers an exam or evaluation appropriate for the subject. Some courses are excluded.
  • Through the CVC Portfolio evaluation, you can provide documentation and a written description of the experience and learning aligned to each outcome to validate your knowledge of the subjects covered by the course you are trying to get credits. Documentation is understood as the specific evidence that learning was acquired through experience. Written documentation supplements this evidence. CVC provides guidelines for the preparation of the Portfolio of previous learning.

CVC determines on an individual basis the amount of credits based on prior learning that can be granted. This determination is based on an examination of the previous Learning Portfolio that the student has presented. Credit will not be granted for prior learning that exceeds one XX of the total credits required to graduate (eg, XX credits of a XX credit program). Moreover, the credits for prior learning will not replace the XX credits of the program that must be completed by means of a direct enrollment in order to obtain a degree. The credits obtained by previous learning are additional to any credit that you can obtain by means of transfer of credits from another school.

Credit validation by exam, or also known as College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a way to obtain academic credits for subjects that have not been studied on the university campus, but have been mastered by other means (through of independent study, job training, internships, cultural activities, or previous courses) passing the exams offered by the College Board, which administers the CLEP tests.

Benefits:

  • CLEP exams provide an excellent opportunity to earn college credits.
  • It allows you to save money on tuition fees.
  • It is also an option for adults who have a very busy life. Through the flexibility that the CLEP program allows, they could obtain academic credits and shorten the time it would take them to obtain a university degree.
  • Almost 3,000 colleges and universities in the United States accept CLEP results, and students can earn three or more credits for each exam they pass.
